Kellogg Halts Sales of Peanut Butter Crackers

Kellogg has asked stores to pull its Keebler and Austin brand peanut butter crackers from store shelves. The company described the action as a "precautionary measure" after learning one of its peanut paste supplier, Peanut Corp. of America, announced a nationwide recall of peanut butter.

The announcement applies to the following Kellogg products:

Health Officials Confirm King Nut Peanut Butter Linked to Salmonella Outbreak

Minnesota health officials stated that testing on a tub of King Nut peanut butter confirmed it was linked to a nationwide salmonella outbreak. The Minnesota Department of Health previously had issued a warning after preliminary testing revealed salmonella contamination.

The peanut butter is sold under the labels King Nut and Parnell's Pride with the lot code "8."

King Nut Peanut Butter Recalled, May Be Linked to Salmonella Typhimurium Outbreak

The FDA announced it was testing peanut butter manufactured by King Nut Companies to determine whether it was linked to a nationwide outbreak of salmonella typhimurium that has sickened at least 400 people in 42 states.

The Minnesota Department of Health revealed that a tub of peanut butter produced by King Nut Companies tested positive for generic salmonella at a nursing home where several people have been sickened by salmonella infection. King Nut Companies sells only to institutional customers, including nursing homes, hospitals, schools and restaurants.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control announced that the agency is investigating a salmonella outbreak that has sickened nearly 400 people in 42 states. The majority of infections appear to have occurred in Ohio, Michigan and California.
