Peoria High School Student Steven Gessner Struck and Killed
Peoria, Arizona—Steven Gessner, age 14 and a first-year student at Peoria High School, was struck by a van on his way to class Friday morning. He was in the crosswalk in front of his school and the crosswalk lights were flashing.
The driver of a northbound van did not see him but remained at the scene following the collision. Steven was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Later that evening, fans held a moment of silence during the football game between Peoria and Cactus high schools.
Peoria Police closed 83rd Avenue between Cactus Road and Grand Avenue for several hours.
