Mesa, Arizona—A Mesa man is in the hospital with life-threatening head injuries following a hit-and-run accident on Monday afternoon. Witnesses reported seeing a black car southbound on 98th Street run a stop sign and strike a 55-year-old man riding a motorized bicycle that was westbound on Broadway Road. The car did not stop or return to the scene.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office detectives reviewed a surveillance video of the incident. A neighbor who recognized the car gave them an address where the car is usually parked. Police drove to the address and found Haley Madison Dean, age 19, exiting a black Chevrolet Cobalt with front-end damage consistent with a crash. Ms. Dean initially lied about her involvement before admitting she was driving at the time of the crash. She was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an at-fault traffic collision.
The unidenfied victim was transported by ambulance to Banner Desert Medical Center with a life-threatening head injury.
We offer our best wishes that the injured man has a swift and full recovery.
