Phoenix, Arizona—An as-yet unidentified female motorcyclist died of injuries she received when a car turned in front of her in central Phoenix yesterday.  The 30-year-old woman was southbound on 20th Street just south of Highland Avenue when an impaired driver, later identified as Martez Lyle Begay, age 23, crossed her path.

According to accident investigators, Begay drove left of the center line as he turned into a private drive.  Following the collision, the woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Neither Begay nor his 37-year-old male passenger was hurt.  Police reportedly noted that Begay showed signs of impairment and a breath test showed his blood-alcohol level at 0.195.  He was arrested and booked into Maricopa County Jail on suspicion of manslaughter.

Our sympathy is with the victim’s family and friends over this tragic loss.
