Tempe, Arizona—A 13-year veteran of the Arizona State University campus police force died of injuries he received when his motorcycle struck a freeway off-ramp wall this morning.  The Arizona Department of Public Safety reports that Officer Joseph Montgomery, age 54, was on his way to the ASU Tempe campus at about 8:30 a.m. when his motorcycle struck the northbound off-ramp wall of the University Drive exit off Loop 101.

A large procession of police cars followed as Officer Montgomery’s body was transported from Banner Desert Medical Center to the County Medical Examiner’s Office in downtown Phoenix.  Authorities are still investigating the accident.  Officer Montgomery leaves behind his wife and children.

We offer our deepest sympathies to the Montgomery family and friends at this time of tragic loss for them.
