Parker, Arizona—Aja Calhoun, age 37, a special education teacher at Western Valley Elementary School, was killed in a tragic car accident on September 24th.

Ms. Calhoun and a friend were driving on SR-95 just outside Parker, Arizona when another vehicle attempted to pass their car illegally.  Ms. Calhoun swerved to avoid a collision, but crashed head-on into a semi-truck.

On Wednesday, October 5th, the school held a special ceremony in her honor.  Students planted a tree in a new addition to the school’s courtyard.  A scholarship bearing her name has been established.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is still searching for the driver of the other car who fled the scene.  The vehicle is described as a dark-colored BMW.  Anyone with information should contact the police or DPS.

We extend our condolences to Ms. Calhoun’s family and friends over this tragic loss.
