Wrong-Way Accident on I-17 Seriously Injures Four

Black Canyon City, Arizona—A wrong-way driver collided head-on with another vehicle on Interstate 17 just north of Black Canyon City on Tuesday. The Arizona Department of Public Safety received 911 calls at about 2:45 a.m. reporting a vehicle driving northbound in the southbound lanes.

The two vehicles became fully engulfed in flames as passers-by removed the injured victims to safety.  The wrong-way driver and three people from the second vehicle were transported by helicopter and ambulance to urgent care facilities nearby.

The Daisy Mountain Fire Department responded to the accident scene near Sunset Point Rest Area.

Accident investigators have not released the names of any of the victims as the investigation continues. No additional information presently is available.
