Five Rescued After Car Accident on Mount Elden
Sedona, Arizona—Several area agencies responded to a 911 call shortly before 5:00 p.m. Saturday after a vehicle left the roadway and tumbled down a steep embankment about six miles up Mount Elden Lookout Road.
Coordinated efforts between the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Guardian Medical and Summit Fire Department, Flagstaff Fire Department and Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue helicopter resulted in a successful accident injury rescue mission.
DPS accident investigators report that two passengers were ejected and located several yards further down the mountainside. Rescue personnel fashioned a rope haul system connected to the DPS Rescue helicopter to transport the most critically injured person up to the roadway, where he was transferred to an ambulance waiting just off SR-180.
Two passengers were taken by ambulance to Flagstaff Medical Center. Two more were treated at the scene and released.
Accident investigators have not yet released the identities of those involved.
DPS continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
