Jeffrey Pino and Nick Tramontano Killed in Plane Crash
Maricopa, Arizona—Jeffrey Pino, age 61, and Nick Tramontano, age 72, were killed when the single engine P-51D Mustang in which they were flying crashed about 15 miles south of Phoenix on Friday. Mr. Pino, the owner and pilot of the vintage aircraft, was the former president of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation.
Witnesses report hearing the engine sputtering before it exploded then crashed within a few hundred feet of some homes. Witness Phillip Gonzalez said he saw the World War II-era fighter plane perform several diving maneuvers before crashing.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is the largest helicopter manufacturer in the United States and has supplied the White House with Marine One, the President’s helicopter, for decades.
Accident investigators continue their search for the cause of the accident.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Pino and Mr. Tramontano at this time of great loss for them.
