Quartzsite, Arizona—Jose Macias, age 39, and Genoveva Castro, age 66, were killed early Friday morning when they were ejected from their SUV after it rolled following a rear end collision by a semi-truck. Three children and two other adults who were passengers in the SUV were injured.  The incident occurred on Interstate 10 about 20 miles east of Quartzsite.

The driver of the semi, David Yates, age 55, reportedly fled the scene on foot.  He was arrested a short distance from the crash site by La Paz County Sheriff’s officers.  Yates has been charged with two counts of second degree murder, five counts of aggravated assault, leaving the scene of a fatal collision, and driving under the influence of drugs.

We express our sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Macias and Ms. Castro.  We wish speedy and complete recoveries for all those injured in this horrific collision.
