Wrong-Way Crash on I-10 Kills Two, Critically Injures Two Others
Phoenix, Arizona—A wrong-way driver on I-10 crashed head-on into a pickup truck, resulting in two deaths and two serious injuries.
According to investigators with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Jeremiah Trotter, age 63, was driving an SUV and traveling in the wrong direction on the westbound I-10 transition ramp in Ahwatukee when he collided head-on with a truck.
Mr. Trotter and his passenger, Bennett Vella, age 28, both died in the collision. Two people in the pickup truck that was struck by Mr. Trotter's vehicle remain hospitalized in critical condition.
DPS reports that at least 1,600 wrong-way drivers have been reported to the agency and it has investigated 27 collisions that resulted in injuries or fatalities. More than 100 drivers have been arrested for DUI in connection with wrong-way incidents.
