Strawberry, Arizona—Two men died and a teen was seriously injured when the ATV in which they were riding went airborne and crashed into a tree on Saturday afternoon. According to Coconino County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the accident occurred on Forest Road 144, several miles north of SR-260 on the Mogollon Rim.
Witnesses camping nearby found the ATV wrapped around a tree on its side and rolled the vehicle upright. The area was so remote that it took the Pine-Strawberry Fire Department about an hour to reach the site. Emergency responders found two men dead inside the vehicle.
The third passenger, a 14-year-old in the rear seat, was trapped inside the roll cage and seriously injured. Campers lent crews a reciprocating saw to extricate him. Native Air transported the teen to a Phoenix hospital.
Our hearts are with the victims’s families and friends as they mourn their losses. We wish the teen a quick and full recovery.
