Phoenix, Arizona—A car accident on Loop 101 at Tatum Boulevard on Saturday night claimed the life of David Justin Rivera.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety determined that two vehicles were westbound on Loop 101 in a construction zone near Tatum when Mr. Rivera’s Jeep Cherokee was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Brandon Moon, age 23.  Mr. Rivera suffered a traumatic brain injury and was pronounced deceased at HonorHealth Deer Valley Hospital.

Mr. Moon admitted using his cell phone shortly before the crash but denied any drug or alcohol use.  Investigators suspected impairment was an issue.  They conducted various field sobriety tests on Mr. Moon and ultimately arrested and charged him with aggravated assault and possession of a prescription drug.  The investigation is ongoing.

We offer our sympathies to David Rivera’s family and friends at this time of great loss for them.
