New London County, Connecticut—The front-seat passengers in each of two cars that collided head-on were killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 early Sunday morning.  Emergency responders included crews from three ambulance companies, three fire departments, two medical helicopters and Connecticut State Police.

According to police, a Lexus driven by Jose Gonzalez, age 38 of Groton, Connecticut, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-95 when it struck a southbound Toyota Prius.  Police theorize that Gonzalez may have entered the highway at Exit 91.  The front seat passenger, Eric Ramakers, age 37 of Phoenix, died in the crash.  Mr. Gonzalez was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by ambulance.

The Prius was driven by Stephane Francois, age 26 of Brockton, Massachusetts.  She and a passenger in the back seat, Jerome Aullychard, age 26 of Elmont, New York, were transported by air to Rhode Island Hospital.  The owner and front seat passenger of the Prius, Lorna Valcin, age 26 of Braintree, Massachusetts, died in the crash.

As of Tuesday morning, Ms. Francois remains listed in fair condition at the hospital, while neither Mr. Aullychard nor Mr. Gonzalez were listed as patients there.

The investigation is ongoing.

Our sympathies are with the families and friends of Mr. Ramakers and Ms. Braintree over their tragic losses.  We wish swift and full recoveries for those who were injured.
