Phoenix, Arizona—A wrong-way accident along Southern Avenue this morning claimed the life of Keith Pounds, Jr., age 25.  According to accident investigators with the Phoenix Police Department, Mr. Pounds was westbound in the 2400 block of west Southern Avenue when his 2002 Toyota SUV inexplicably crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.  His car struck an eastbound 2018 Nissan SUV head-on.

Mr. Pounds was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.  The driver of the Nissan is identified only as a 60-year-old woman who suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The accident investigation is ongoing.

Our sympathies are with Mr. Pounds’ family and friends at this time of great loss for them.  We wish the injured woman a swift and complete recovery.
