Ma Ponce Killed in Wrong-Way Head-On Accident South of Phoenix

Phoenix, Arizona—A driver going the wrong way on a highway south of Phoenix struck another vehicle head-on late Sunday night, killing its driver. The Arizona Department of Public Safety identified the decedent as Ma Ponce, age 67 of Mesa.
DPS closed southbound SR-347 near the town of Maricopa while the investigation continues. The wrong-way driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Impairment is considered a possible factor contributing to the accident.
