Madalena Mendonca Killed, Two Others Injured by Speeding Red Light Runner

Phoenix, Arizona—A man suspected of running a red light at high speed is charged with killing a woman and injuring two others.  The accident occurred Monday morning just after 6:30 a.m. at Washington and 40th Street.

Austin Clark, age 28, reportedly was driving his Camero at 88 mph when he ran a red light and struck an SUV driven by Madalena Mendonca, age 40.  Ms. Mendonca was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died.  Her as-yet unidentified 19-year-old passenger is in serious condition.  

One of the vehicles spun out of control and struck a 64-year-old pedestrian who is expected to recover. Clark was booked into jail on suspicion of manslaughter, aggravated assault and endangerment.

Our sympathy is with Madelna Mendonca’s family and friends as they mourn her loss. We wish the other victims speedy and complete recoveries.
