According to investigators with the Arizona DPS, Marcellos and Aaron Cacho were passengers in a vehicle driven by Marquese Matthews. Marquese was traveling southbound on I-17 and transitioning to the westbound I-10 ramp when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the roadway. The car rolled and struck a palm tree. Marcellos and Cacho were ejected. Marcellos was killed in the accident. Cacho sustained a broken left hip.
Investigators believe impairment was a factor in the crash. Marquese was arrested and booked on charges of first degree murder, aggravated assault and endangerment. He admitted to drinking earlier in the evening and reportedly registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.125.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Marcellos Matthews over this tragic loss and wish Aaron Cacho a speedy and complete recovery.
