Phoenix, Arizona—Michael Phillips, age 34, was standing on a sidewalk near 43rd Avenue and Bell Road when he developed a medical issue. A 55-year-old woman pulled over to assist the man just before he collapsed into the roadway. In her rush to assist the man, the woman jumped out of the car but failed to put the vehicle into park. The car rolled over Mr. Phillips, resulting in extensive injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

The woman remained on scene as officers with the Phoenix Police Department investigated the deadly accident. Police determined she was not impaired.

It will be up to the medical examiner to determine whether Mr. Phillips died from trauma related to the accident or the medical condition that caused him to collapse.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Michael Phillips over this tragic accident.
