Pedestrians Deqa Osman and Jane Hurley Killed After Two Cars Collide

Phoenix, Arizona—Two women are dead after a vehicle involved in a car accident was propelled onto the sidewalk where they were walking. The accident occurred on Monday evening in Phoenix.

According to accident investigators with the Phoenix Police Department, Deqa Osman, age 46, and Jane Hurley, age 36, were walking on a sidewalk near 52nd Street and McDowell Road when two vehicles collided at the intersection. Investigators report that a 2000 Toyota Camry heading eastbound on McDowell Road turned left in front of a 2003 Mercedes. As a result of the impact, the Mercedes was pushed onto the sidewalk at the northwest corner of the intersection where it hit both women.

Ms. Osman and Ms. Hurley were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Both died of their injuries. Both occupants of the Mercedes were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured.

Police do not believe that impairment was at an issue. The accident investigation remains ongoing.
