Phoenix, Arizona—A collision in the northbound lanes of 32nd Street near Cortez Street resulted in two fatalities and injured several others. The accident occurred on Tuesday evening at about 8:30 p.m.
According to investigators with the Phoenix Police Department, Lex Christopher Currie, age 23, was driving northbound on 32nd Street at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a Nissan Maxima. The impact propelled the Nissan Maxima off the roadway and into a tree. The Camry veered south then crashed into a Chevy Cruze and another car, which drove off.
The Phoenix Fire Department transported two passengers and the driver of the Maxima to the hospital. The passengers, identified as Kimberly Sorg, age 24, and Michelle Kardis, age 49, were pronounced deceased at the hospital. The unidentified 25-year-old driver suffered serious injuries. Both the driver of the Cruze, a 53-year-old woman, and the Camry driver incurred minor injuries.
Phoenix Police arrested Mr. Currie in connection with the accident. According to investigators, he was driving at speeds close to 100 m.p.h. and had a blood alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit.
Our sympathy is with the families and friends of Kimberly Sorg and Michelle Kardis. We wish a speedy and full recovery for those who were injured.
