Phoenix, Arizona—A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was struck by a car yesterday evening.
According to investigators with the Phoenix Police Department, Javier Solis was among a group of children crossing the street at Central Avenue and Roeser Road inside a crosswalk. A Dodge Charger was executing a left turn and did not observe the children within the crosswalk. Javier saw the oncoming vehicle and pushed the other children out of the way before he was hit.
Javier was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. His injuries include three skull fractures and broken limbs. He underwent surgery on Thursday morning as he recovers from his serious injuries.
The driver of the car remained on scene and admitted to officers that he did not see the children in the crosswalk when he attempted the left turn. Police do not believe that impairment was a factor in the accident and have not announced whether the driver was cited or will face charges.
We wish Javier a speedy and complete recovery.
