Christian Chavez, Jonathan Vazquez-Garcia and Miguel Loya-Sanchez Killed in I-17 Accident

Phoenix, Arizona—A truck towing a trailer southbound on Interstate 17 in north Phoenix stopped in the HOV lane to investigate a mechanical issue.  The truck’s five occupants exited the vehicle and stood between the truck and the trailer to inspect the problem.  Another vehicle traveling in the same lane crashed into the trailer. 

Christian Chavez, Jonathan Vazquez-Garcia and Miguel Loya-Sanchez died at the scene. One person was transported to a trauma center in critical condition, while the fifth person was treated and released.  The driver of the second vehicle also received critical injuries requiring transport to a hospital.
