
Wrong-Way Driver Crashes Into 3 Cars, Injures Self and Four Others in Accident on I-17

Phoenix, Arizona—A wrong-way driver slammed into multiple vehicles on Interstate 17 in Phoenix on Monday night, seriously injuring himself and four others. Beginning at about 9:30 p.m., the Arizona Department of Public Safety received calls of a driver heading north in the southbound lanes of I-17 near Jefferson Street.
The wrong-way driver, identified only as a 40-year-old male from Cave Creek, crashed into three vehicles as he approached Thomas Road, injuring each of the drivers and one passenger. He is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. DPS accident investigators believe he may have been impaired by drugs. The accident closed southbound I-17 for more than four hours.
