The wrong-way driver, identified only as a 40-year-old male from Cave Creek, crashed into three vehicles as he approached Thomas Road, injuring each of the drivers and one passenger.  He is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.  DPS accident investigators believe he may have been impaired by drugs.  The accident closed southbound I-17 for more than four hours.
