Austin Obermeyer Killed in Head-on Accident Outside Paulden

Paulden, Arizona—Austin Joel Obermeyer, age 21 of Chino Valley, died in a car accident on Highway 89 at milepost 341 north of Paulden late Saturday afternoon.  Arizona Department of Public Safety accident investigators report that Mr. Obermeyer was passing a vehicle when he struck an oncoming car head-on.

DPS officials state that the woman driving the other car was air-lifted to Flagstaff Medical Center by Native Air helicopter in serious condition.  Her name has not been released.  There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

Recovery efforts included three engines and a battalion chief from Central Arizona Fire & Medical Authority, two Life Line ambulances, a helicopter from Native Air and multiple units from DPS, Arizona Department of Transportation and the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Obermeyer over this tragic loss, and we wish a speedy and full recovery for the other driver who was injured.
