Liberal, Kansas—Lyle Paul Ohlde, age 72 of St. David, Arizona, was injured earlier this week when the front left tire of his GMC pickup truck blew, catapulting it into the westbound lanes of Highway 54, about 10 miles west of Liberal, Kansas.
Mr. Ohlde’s pickup struck the trailer of a Freightliner semi-truck driven by Luis Orlando Coto, age 51 of Garden City, Kansas. A second westbound Freightliner driven by Fanica Gabriel Costea struck both vehicles while attempting to avoid the initial collision.
Mr. Ohlde was flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Neither semi-truck driver was injured in the accident. Highway 54 remained closed for several hours.
We wish Mr. Ohlde a swift and full recovery.
