Tucson, Arizona—Travis Childress, age 18, and Madisyn Bertsch, age 16, were killed Saturday morning in a horrific car crash.  The tragic incident closed Golf Links Road in both directions between Sahuara Avenue and Craycroft Road.

Both young people were students at Cienega High School in the Vail Unified School District.  Travis was scheduled to graduate with his twin brother, Wyatt, in two weeks.  The young men had just lost their father earlier this year.

Tucson Police accident investigators report that apparently Mr. Childress was driving east on Golf Links Road when he passed through a break in the median and struck a westbound white Ford truck.  The Ford rolled, then hit a third vehicle.  The seriously injured driver of the truck was taken to a nearby hospital, while the driver in the third vehicle was unharmed.  The injured driver is, as yet, unidentified.

All parties were wearing seat belts and speed was not a factor.

We extend our condolences to the families and friends of Ms. Bertsch and Mr. Childress at this time of great loss for them.  We wish the injured truck driver a speedy and complete recovery.
