Wrong Way Crash Results in Child's Death, Serious Injuries to Others
Sierra Vista, Arizona—An off-duty Customs and Border Protection Officer faces multiple criminal charges after causing a wrong-way crash that took the life of a 9-year-old boy traveling with him on Friday.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety says Clifford James Johnson, age 38 of Sierra Vista, was driving the wrong way on SR-90 outside Sierra Vista when the collision occurred.
Two other underage children in the car suffered serious injuries. Johnson’s injuries were minor. The couple in the other vehicle, identified as Layne and Michell East, sustained serious injuries.
Mr. Johnson was booked into Cochise County Jail on charges of second-degree murder, child abuse, endangerment, aggravated DUI and criminal damage.
