Three Members of Gaspar Family Killed in Phoenix Crash Caused by Drunk Driver

Phoenix, Arizona—A family of three was killed and five others are hospitalized in very serious condition after a drunk driver struck their SUV on South Mountain Loop 202 near 40th Street on the evening of New Year’s Day.

Juan Carlos Gaspar, age 45, his wife, Selma Gaspar, age 45, and their 12-year-old son, Carlito Gaspar, were all ejected from their SUV as it rolled multiple times.  Three extended family members were in the vehicle with them and they remain hospitalized in serious condition.

Arylan Guy, age 23, admitted to authorities that he had been drinking while driving.  Police found open containers of whiskey and beer in his car.  Guy’s blood alcohol content at the time he was admitted to the hospital was .22.  He faces three counts of manslaughter and four counts of aggravated assault upon his release from the hospital.  His passenger, a teenage girl, is hospitalized in serious condition.
