Daniel Catalan Killed in Avondale Car Accident
Avondale, Arizona—Daniel Catalan, age 22, died as a result of injuries he sustained in a car crash early Monday evening.
According to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office accident investigators, Mr. Catalan was a passenger in a white Pontiac driven by Bethzy Chavez Delacruz, age 19. The vehicle they occupied was westbound on Indian School Road near 113th Drive in an unincorporated part of the county near Avondale.
For an unknown reason, Ms. Delacruz’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided with an eastbound silver sedan driven by Carol Goodwin, age 31. The point of impact was on the passenger side of Ms. Delacruz’s car, which caused Mr. Catalan to sustain the most severe injuries.
All three people were transported to a nearby hospital, where Mr. Catalan was pronounced dead. Ms. Delacruz and Ms. Goodwin sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
MCSO deputies are still investigating the accident to determine the factors that caused the crash.
