Nogales, Arizona—A preliminary investigation by the Nogales Police Department indicates that driver texting may have been the cause of a head-on collision that claimed the life of Maria Gonzalez, age 43.
Nogales Police accident investigators report that on June 10th, a silver Ford Expedition traveling on Mariposa Road crossed the centerline between Congress Drive and Interstate 19 into the path of Ms. Gonzalez vehicle. The driver was identified only as a male resident of Nogales.
Ms. Gonzalez was air-evac'd to Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, where she died shortly thereafter. Two other occupants of Ms. Gonzalez car were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital.
After police conclude their investigation, the case will be turned over to the Santa Cruz County Attorney’s Office.
Our sympathies are with the family and friends of Ms. Gonzalez at this time of great loss for them, and we wish swift and full recoveries for those who were injured.
