Apache Junction, Arizona—Dave Dutra was riding his bike near Meridian Road and Southern Avenue when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The impact launched him into the air. The vehicle immediately fled the scene.

According to his wife, Julie Dutra, the car drove onto the shoulder to get around a slower-moving truck when it collided with him.

Mr. Dutra suffered extensive injuries, including a concussion, torn spleen, fractured wrist and nearly-detached ear. He returned to the hospital after initially being discharged and was told he suffered a stroke.

Witnesses describe the vehicle that struck Mr. Dutra as white with its passenger side window ripped off.
