
Arturo Canales Killed in Wrong-Way Accident Near Dateland

Dateland, Arizona—A wrong-way accident on Interstate 8 left one person dead and another with serious injuries on Sunday morning. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arturo Canales, age 41 of Phoenix, was traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-8 at milepost 58 at about 6:25 a.m. when the collision occurred.
Both drivers were pulled from their burning vehicles by passersby. Mr. Canales was pronounced deceased at the scene. The as-yet unidentified driver of the other vehicle was air-evacuated to a hospital in Goodyear with serious injuries.
The westbound lanes of I-8 were closed for several hours. No additional information presently is available. The investigation is ongoing.
